Important Information

112 - Emergency Services

112 is the equivalent emergency number of 000 on a mobile service. It can be used overseas or within Australia and outside of normal coverage area.

Safety Information

Mobile telephone services are governed by the Australian Communications Authority (ACA), which acts as the Australian governments’ regulator under the Telecommunications Act 1997.

The ACA standards cover safety parameters for radio communications equipment. A mandatory AUSTEL permit number attached to a mobile phone is certification that it complies with the appropriate AUSTEL Technical Standards.

Using a mobile phone is easy and safe. Here are a few simple rules to follow for your convenience and safety:

  • Never operate a mobile phone handset while in control of a vehicle. A hands free kit should be used instead. In most states it is illegal to use a mobile phone while driving.
  • Your mobile phone incorporates a radio transmitting device. Although the power is low, it is advisable to avoid direct contact with the antenna while the mobile is in use.
  • Radio Frequency (RF) energy may be potentially hazardous near explosives and combustible materials. Always obey any warning signs regarding not operating mobile phones or radio transmitters by switching it off. As, even if you do not take the call, your mobile phone is still active.
  • Do not operate your mobile phone in any aircraft as it may interfere with the navigation, communications and/or electronic controls. Always ensure your mobile phone is completely switched off.
  • Do not operate your mobile phone near other radio transmitting equipment. If you use a bio-medical electronic device such as a pacemaker or hearing aid, please consult your appropriate medical specialist.
  • Remember that mobile phones may disturb other electronic equipment such as radio, hi-fi, TV, fixed phones and computer systems if used within 2 metres of these devices.
